Tyranid List ideas

By TheGravemind

I've been going back and forth on some lists for my tyranids. I've been doing decent enough with them at the past few tournaments, but since Chaos got updated, I've been struggling a bit more. My one hive tyrant has been letting me down, so I've been thinking about taking two. If I do that though, I'd have to give up the ymgarl stealers, which have been doing very well for me. I'm not completely sold on mawlocs yet either. I'm trying to decide soon, so I can start painting this up for tournaments and the escalation league.
So here are some of my ideas. Right now looking at 1850, but possible 1750-2000 modifications.

Or maybe something more like this.

Ymgarl stealers x10

Ymgarl Stealers x10

Doom of Mal + pod

195
Gaunts x10

Gargoyles; toxin sacs, adrenal glands x15
120
Mawloc

As you can see, I have the general core of a list I know I want to run, I can't decide between x2 tyrants, or x20 ymgarl, and thus x2 mawlocs or x3 trygons.  In my experiences, the stealers have done more than a single tyrant, but I need to try two out. The trygons generally out perform the mawlocs, and once they hit combat make up for the turn of large blast the mawlocs provide.

The second list has a lot more back field disruption with 20 ymgarl, 2 mawlocs and doom all dropping in. That is close to the list I have been running recently with moderate success. What do you all think? list 1 worth it?

  1. I feel like Tyranids without a good number of psy powers are shooting themselves in the foot. 3 powers per Tervigon plus zoanthrope support really makes the army a tremendous pain.

  2. I hate the psychic nid lists. I feel like they are playing with a crutch, if someone takes that away (eldar allies, space wolves, other nids) then they fall flat on their face. Besides, they are far too random for me, I want something I can depend on. With out hoods stopping our powers, paroxysm and catalyst are much better now.
