A farsight army adventure.

By TheGraveMind

Stealth team with the relic hid in a corner waiting for Broadsides to come to the rescue.
Last weekend I took my nearly finished farsight list to my gaming club for an event. It was 5/8ths soft scores and every table had a custom mission.
It was everything goes format at 1500 points with a 250 point side board to swap out since the missions were so unique.

Rules from the past

By TheGravemind

7th edition marks the first time I haven't bought the mini rule book from the starter set. Probably due to there isn't one. I've never bothered owning the full rulebook before so this is an interesting experience for me.

Everytime I look back and try and remember older editions, I the key feature that differs them for me is the prefered enemy rule. Maybe that says something about my armies or style.

In 4th, prefered enemy allowed you to always hit on a 3+ in combat. (Side note, USRs fit on two pages back then)

In 5th, it became a reroll to hit in combat, which was better for most things. USRs expanded to another page.

6th say PE expand outside of combat and beyond hitting. Now in both shooting and combat, you got to reroll 1s to hit and to wound. PE also started becoming a lot more specific on who it effected. By now USRs jumped to 11 pages worth.

7th really is very much 6.5 in a lot of ways, and most usr have stayed the same.

How far back does everyone elses memory go for prefered enemy through the different editions? Anything else that stands out as changes for you?

Whats new + faq

By thegravemind

So the new edition is out and there a few changes, some big and small.  Some of the major ones are covered else where, but I wanted to point out a few minor things.

Hit and run is now worded where you have to move the exact distance rolled like it was in 4th edition. Picking the right direction is more important now.

Going flat out no longer increases your jink save.

With the faqs out, tau and necrons now have better magic defense than tyranids and wolves. Shadows in the warp still only effects leadership so does nothing and runic weapons give +1 to deny. The tau talisman gives +2 and necron still have the spyders ability.

All pre 6th books lost their codex powers. Blood angels and wolves take the biggest hit from this I think.

All characters lost precise shot/strike.

There are many others. Ignoring the daemonology fiasco, what are the changes that have effected you guys the most?

Some size comparison (knights and fliers)

By thegravemind

When the knights first came out I was trying to do a little research on them, and the leviathan sale had just ended as well. I was getting frustrated cause it has been surprisingly difficult to find a side by side. Newbreed had gotten some of each, and so I recently jumped on the chance to take some pictures.

Wardens of Truth

I've been practicing painting marines. It feels so different compared to painting tyranids or tau. I think I'm getting the hang of it though. These have turned out pretty well for dark vengeance marines.

FoC evolution

With all the rumors and reports of a new edition coming out in the next month, I wanted to take a look back at how far we've come in one edition. A look back at simpler times.
The foc has evolved faster and more advanced than anyone thought possible!
This isn't even its ultimate form!

Knights of the 6x4 table

I was able to make it down to bloomingtons tournament last weekend. I brought my space marines this time and decided to give them a try. I had gotten a practice game against a Knight primary army the day before with my tau, and it seemed I was going to get practice in with my marines now too.
My first game was against a Knight list, with space marine allies. It was a five objective missions, so I though I had the advantage. We had night fight and he deployed spread out, so I refused flank to deny him good shooting first turn. First turn went in my favor as I killed his sternguard, his droppod, and his first knight. Second turn my storm talon blew up his storm raven. From there it went down hill as I got poor assault distance rolls, he got remove from play stomp effects, and I failed about three ld tests in a row while forgetting about atsknf (I'm a xenos player.....shhh)
The game ended with him having one knight left, and I had a tac squad on the other far side of the table for a tie. I won by linebreaker and first blood as we both had slay the warlord. Overall knights don't seem to be a push over list. They are beatable just like the deathstar lists, and can be a bit rock paper scissors in match ups. Some lists will struggle against them, and others won't. If your army can handle AV13 walkers, you should be fine.

Adepticon Team Tournament Day 2

By TheGraveMind
Going into Day two, we were able to decide how our team was split. We decided running Dark angels and Iron hands, along with Blood angels and Crimson fists had the best split of list and player options.

Adpeticon Team Tournament Day 1.

By TheGraveMind

We started off unsure on what to expect, this was our first time at the event. We were paired up so that I (Dark angels as white scars) was teamed up with Iron hands. This was good as it allowed our tournament players to be split and work with our casual players in the first round.

Team Battle Mallet!!

By TheGraveMind
Some of us from Battle Mallet club (TheGravemind, GravyGhost, Master of the Mallet, and The Human Space Marine) Went to Adepticon this past weekend and played in the Team Tournament. This was our first year, and we were basically going to test the waters. We made a lot of last minute list changes, and we didn't even know the exact details of what our teammates were using until the day of. But we had a blast, and below is some pictures of what we took.

Adepticon pictures

Here are a lot of pictures I took at adepticon. I realize I need a better camera, forgive some of the bad pictures. Most of them don't do the armies justice.

D weapon variance?

By thegravemind

Seems forge world came out with optional rules for destroyer weapons that tones them down for regular play. This is something that should have been implemented with escalation. Proves yet again forgeworld is the best side of gw.
*Destroyer weapons count as being Strength 10 and have the Instant Death, Sunder and Ignores Cover special rules. In addition, successful invulnerable saves taken against hits from Destroyer Weapons must be re-rolled.
*Each unsaved wound from a destroyer weapon inflicts d3+1 wounds. Each penetrating hit from a destroyer weapon causes d3+1 hull points / rolls once on the appropriate vehicle damage chart.

Some more games with the new tyranids.

By TheGraveMind

Recently Rockstar had an event for Escalation, where it was basically a bring anything even. I gathered up my painted tyranids, with my scythed heirodule I had finished not to long ago and headed out. There were plenty of Imperial Knights, and stand ins, as well as war hounds and void shields.

ForgeWorld Tyranids sighted.

By TheGraveMind

Forge world event pictures by some people who were there. Interesting look. We'll see how the final product turns out and what the rules are. It is supposedly a fast attack choice. OMG we might have an MC with a 3+ that is a fast attack!

They came from the darkness!

By TheGravemind

So the blog has been quiet for a month or so. All of us here are busy trying to get ready for Adepticon. Life's been throwing me some curve balls, but things are starting to settle back down.

Forge world released some new Night lord bits, and I wanted to show them off.

By TheGraveMind

In a game to both practice the upcoming Frostycon missions, and to gain more experience with the New tyranid codex, I pitted my tyranids against Nemesis Crimson fist army.

The Fall of Triturus IV

By TheGraveMind
A Xenos Inquisitor on Triturus II investigating a Genestealer cult first saw the signs of the coming invasion. He sent word to the world of Triturus IV once reports of converging Tyranid splinter fleets were confirmed. Once the entity known as The Swarmlord was sighted, an all out request for aid was sent for reinforcements.

Tyranid fandex v1.1

By TheGravemind

So now that I've played a few games with the new Codex, I still think it is on par with the 5th ed book, and has the same feel to it. I didn't like the 5th ed book that much, especially not in 6th edition.

So I went to my happy place, and I made a rough draft of a Fandex for myself.

The relics don't exist and are just place holders, the biomorphs rules are left in comments. Anything that isn't listed probably stayed the same. Feel free to give it a read and let me know what you think.

The Chili Waaagh apoc game

The Wardens of Truth (Dark Angels) fight the xeno (ork) menace. I rushed to get bikers and the rest of the army assembled and primed for this event.

The Invincible Screamerstar...on a day the Chaos Gods were fickle.

By Newbreed

Hey everyone!

Newbreed here to talk about everyone's favorite list Screamerstar again.

I recently had the chance, along with TheGraveMind, to participate in a local tournament (Trial by Fire) allowing EVERYTHING from both Stronghold Assault and Escalation.  This was...um...interesting to say the least.  Overall it was a great time run by a great local TO.

If you want to see something less focused on Screamerstar I suggest you catch his post on the Back40k blog!

Tyranids Vs Tau

By TheGraveMind

So the week before the new codex came out, I got a game in against tyranids with my tau. I talked to one of the other premier Tyranid tournament players and we set up a game. I hadn't faced him running his Nids before, and as a Nid player gone Tau, I wanted to see how I could handle it.

Tyranids Day1

By TheGraveMind

Ok, so the new book is out, and everyone is lamenting over the nut punch that has occurred. You can read that about anywhere. I'm going to try and go through the book, and give you a summary of where the hope is.

Tyranid unit leaks

By TheGravemind

Seems tyranid information is hitting the web.

Imperius Dominatus has a good summary of a lot of things.

And Dakka dakka forums have pictures from a spanish copy if you want to confirm points costs and upgrades and such. Here

Overall getting a great sense of meh, but we'll know soon enough.
